WHAT WE DO
Supporting children in poverty
Akagera Kids was the original name for the program that led to the establishment of Akagera Good Neighbors, a local non-governmental organization (NGO) in Rwanda. The organization works in communities near Akagera National Park to support children and families living in poverty. The program aims to empower children by providing access to education, healthcare, and nutrition, and by developing life skills to help them break the cycle of poverty.
Education and mentorship
The program focuses on ensuring children attend school, assigning teachers to monitor their progress, and providing environmental education.
Volunteering
The organization hosts international volunteers to assist with activities like teaching English and helping with children’s programs, which have included acrobatics, drama, and drumming.
Community Development
The goal is to uplift the entire community by empowering adults with various projects: handicrafts and the development of local enterprises.
